Offence Summary

Muhammad Zayed Amir sexually abused a young girl under the age of 10 and was sentenced to six years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault.

Full Description

A 32-year-old man from Northampton has been imprisoned for over six years following his guilty plea to child sex offences. Muhammad Zayed Amir, who previously resided in Northampton, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on 27 February 2025 for the sexual abuse of a young girl under the age of 10.

The abuse came to light in 2023 when the victim's mother reported the incidents to Northamptonshire Police. Following an investigation, Amir was charged with six offences related to the sexual abuse. In November 2024, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault on a child. The court took into account his perceived dangerousness, resulting in an extended licence period of five years in addition to the custodial sentence.

Lead investigator Detective Constable Nadine Phillips commended the bravery of the young victim, stating: 'The girl in this case has been so brave and I hope this result provides her and her family with some closure. She is a very articulate, courageous young lady with a bright future ahead of her and though nothing can take away what Amir did to her, I hope she feels some sense of justice as a result of his imprisonment.' Phillips also thanked the victim's family for their support during the complex investigation.

Detective Inspector Stuart Nichols emphasised the police commitment to child protection, saying: 'No sentence will ever make up for sexual abuse but I hope this case shows how passionate our team are about protecting the children in this county. I want to reassure our local residents that we will continue working hard to put more people like Muhammad Amir between bars and safeguard as many children as we can.' Nichols praised the investigative work of DCs Phillips and James Harvey for their diligence and determination.

The case was handled by Northamptonshire Police, with the sentencing occurring at Northampton Crown Court. The report was released with the support of the survivor, who retains lifelong anonymity under UK law.
