Offence Summary

Samraj Kundi posed as a single mother online to create a group encouraging parents to abuse their children and incited others to commit child sex offences. He was jailed for five and a half years after pleading guilty to multiple charges.

Full Description

Samraj Kundi, a 29-year-old man from Baildon, West Yorkshire, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for his role in facilitating child sex offences. Pretending to be a single mother named 'Mistress Sarah' from Liverpool, Kundi established an online group called 'Open Minded Parents' to lure like-minded paedophiles into discussions and encouragement of child abuse. He posed as someone who actively abused her own children, claiming to be 'into action, not fantasy', and specifically mentioned plans to 'play with' her two-year-old daughter that night.

The group, which has since been shut down, served as a platform where Kundi engaged in Skype chats, making explicit suggestions to others about abusing young children. Prosecutor Nick Adlington detailed how an undercover police officer interacted with 'Mistress Sarah' on the website, uncovering the deceptive persona. Kundi's activities breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) he was under, as his phone's web browser was set to 'private' mode, violating the terms imposed after a previous conviction.

Prior to this case, Kundi had served a two-year prison sentence for distributing indecent images of children. He was released on 20 April 2016 but began committing new offences within three months. Kundi pleaded guilty to 12 charges of intentionally arranging or facilitating the commission of child sex offences and two counts of breaching the SHPO. His barrister, Gerald Hendron, argued that Kundi had ceased offending in 2017 but relapsed due to low mood and anxiety, noting that he came from a 'thoroughly reputable family' devastated by his actions and the associated stigma.

Judge David Hatton QC described the conduct as 'a course of conduct involving various chats online in which you encouraged the commission of vile offences against children'. Kundi received a custodial sentence of five and a half years, with a requirement to serve at least three years and eight months before potential release, followed by an extended six-year licence period. The case highlights the dangers of online grooming networks and the importance of monitoring individuals subject to SHPOs, as reported by The Independent on 12 November 2018.
