Full Description

A man from Stoke-on-Trent has been sentenced to over three years in prison following his admission of child sex offences. Shaun Mitchell, aged 29 and residing in Trent Vale, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 17 April 2026, where he received a custodial sentence of three years and four months.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl and two counts of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity during an earlier hearing. The offences came to light in 2024 when the victim courageously reported the incidents to Staffordshire Police. Following the report, Mitchell was promptly arrested, though he provided no comment during his police interview in custody.

Detective Constable Jacob Thackstone, who led the investigation from Staffordshire Police's public protection unit, commended the victim's bravery in coming forward. In a statement, he said: 'I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in coming forward and telling us what had happened to her. I hope this sentencing shows that all reports of sexual offences, whether they are recent or historical, are taken seriously and we will take robust action against those responsible.' The case underscores Staffordshire Police's commitment to pursuing justice in sexual offence cases, ensuring that perpetrators face appropriate consequences.

The sentencing at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings against Mitchell, who will serve his term behind bars. Staffordshire Police, through this investigation, highlighted the importance of victims reporting such crimes, regardless of when they occurred.
