Offence Summary

Christopher Taylor, a registered sex offender, committed a sexual act in front of an 11-year-old boy in a McDonald's toilet in Rawtenstall, breaching his sexual harm prevention order. He was sentenced to an extended eight-year prison term at Preston Crown Court.

Full Description

A disturbing incident unfolded in June 2025 at a McDonald's restaurant in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, where Christopher Taylor, a 46-year-old registered sex offender, brazenly violated the terms of his sexual harm prevention order by performing a sexual act in full view of a young child.

Taylor, formerly residing at Tenterden Walk in Wythenshawe, Manchester, was subject to strict conditions prohibiting him from using public toilets outside of individual cubicles. Despite this, on the day in question, he positioned himself next to the urinals and carried out the indecent act while an 11-year-old boy was washing his hands after using the facilities. The boy, visibly upset by the encounter, immediately informed his mother, stating that 'something’s happened in the bathroom that’s really weird'.

Lancashire Police launched a swift investigation following the report. Utilising CCTV footage that captured Taylor's vehicle, officers traced him to Manchester, where he was arrested just a few days later. The evidence gathered underscored the severity of his actions, particularly given his status as a registered sex offender with prior restrictions in place to prevent such behaviour.

Taylor appeared at Preston Crown Court on 7 November 2025, where he had already pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under the age of 13, as well as breaching his sexual harm prevention order. The court imposed an extended sentence of eight years in prison, reflecting the gravity of the offence and his history.

Detective Constable Adam Rainsbury of Burnley CID commented on the case, describing Taylor's actions as 'disgusting behaviour' in front of a young boy. He emphasised that Taylor's conditions were specifically designed to protect the public, particularly vulnerable children, and welcomed the sentence as a strong message that such violations will not be tolerated. This case, reported by Lancashire Constabulary, highlights ongoing efforts to enforce protective orders and safeguard children from sexual harm.
