Offence Summary

A 37-year-old Ipswich man attempted to groom a police decoy he believed was a 14-year-old girl, sending explicit images and offering to pay for her train ticket to meet him.

Full Description

Damian Sadowski, 37, of Yeoman Close in Ipswich, was sentenced to 40 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on 1 May 2026 after targeting a decoy account he thought belonged to a 14-year-old girl.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

On 2 March 2025, Sadowski sent a Facebook message to the police decoy account. Within the first four messages, the account stated she was 14, to which Sadowski replied that he was 37 and 'much older'. He gave the girl his phone number and moved the conversation to WhatsApp, where the exchange quickly became sexual and he sent an explicit image. Sadowski also offered to pay for a train ticket so she could meet him the next day, telling her not to tell anyone.

The conversation was reported to Suffolk Constabulary, and Sadowski was arrested on 10 April 2025. He was later charged on 29 December 2025.

PC Ameerah Ibrahim, the officer in charge of the case, said: 'Although there was no direct victim, Sadowski's attempts to engage in sexual activity with a child online was predatory and for his own sexual gratification. He has shown that he poses a real threat to children, and it is very fortunate that this wasn't a real child involved in conversation. We are committed to bringing to justice those who engage in these crimes.'

An order was enforced for the destruction of his mobile phone, and he was made subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
