Offence Summary

Khurram Rajput, a paedophile from Peterborough, was jailed for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by using encrypted online chat rooms and installing a VPN on his phone. He had previously been convicted of non-contact child sex offences.

Full Description

Khurram Rajput, a 38-year-old man from Peterborough, was sentenced to four years in prison for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that had been imposed on him in May 2023 following a conviction for non-contact child sex offences. The breaches occurred between July and June 2024, when Rajput deliberately used encrypted online platforms to evade detection, highlighting his ongoing risk to vulnerable individuals.

According to Cambridgeshire Police, Rajput accessed the encrypted chat room Chat IW on 28 occasions between 3 July and 23 July 2024. Chat IW is designed not to save chats, ensuring they do not appear in internet history, which Rajput exploited to cover his tracks. During a probation meeting in Peterborough on 23 July 2024, officers seized his Samsung mobile phone due to suspicions that he had violated the terms of his SHPO. Investigations revealed no internet history prior to 2 July 2024, as Rajput had deleted it, and he had also installed a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on the device in June 2024, contravening the order's prohibition on encryption or wiping software.

The SHPO explicitly forbade Rajput from using any computer or device capable of accessing the internet unless it retained and displayed full internet history. By installing the VPN and using the encrypted chat room, he flagrantly disregarded these conditions, which are intended to protect the public, particularly children, from individuals with a history of sexual offences.

  • Rajput pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching the SHPO.
  • The sentencing took place at Cambridge Crown Court on 29 January 2026.
  • PC Emily Heriot, the investigating officer from Cambridgeshire Police, stated: "Rajput knew full well the conditions of his SHPO so it’s great he’s now been brought to justice for these flagrant breaches. It shows both the police and courts won’t tolerate breaches of these orders which are there to protect vulnerable people."

This case underscores the vigilance of Cambridgeshire Police in monitoring individuals subject to SHPOs and the judiciary's commitment to enforcing protective measures against sex offenders. Rajput, residing at Nursery Close in Peterborough, was identified as a paedophile in court proceedings, linking his actions to child-related sexual risks.
