Full Description

A 31-year-old man from Gosport, Hampshire, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for serious sexual offences involving indecent images of children. Alexander Edward Davies, residing on Pavilion Way, admitted to three counts: making indecent images of children, distributing indecent images of children, and possessing extreme pornography. These admissions came at an earlier hearing, culminating in his sentencing at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday, 15 September 2023.

The case came to light when officers from Hampshire Constabulary identified a mobile phone uploading indecent images of children to the internet. The device was discovered hidden at a family member's home, and analysis confirmed Davies' usage and online activity, which clearly violated the conditions of his existing sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). This order had been imposed to prevent re-offending and protect the public following prior convictions.

Investigating officer PC Gemma Southcott emphasised the gravity of the breaches, stating: 'Whilst these were not contact offences the breaches of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order are very serious, and I’m pleased that Davies’ sentence reflects this.' She highlighted the force's commitment to managing sex offenders, noting: 'We take the management of sex offenders incredibly seriously and invest significant resources into doing everything we can to keep the public safe. Officers will often make unannounced visits to offenders where they may be subject to an intrusive investigative interview process.'

PC Southcott further explained the monitoring processes, including examinations of digital devices to ensure compliance with legal requirements. She added: 'These orders are put in place to protect the public and ensure that individuals do not re-offend. Where sex offenders fail to comply, as can be seen in this case, they can and will be returned to jail.' The sentencing underscores Hampshire Constabulary's proactive approach to enforcing SHPOs and safeguarding communities from sexual exploitation.

Davies' arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks posed by individuals subject to such orders. The court proceedings were reported by the Daily Echo, with details confirmed through official statements from Hampshire Constabulary.
