He was warned to expect imprisonment at his upcoming sentencing hearing at Durham Crown Court.

Full Description

Thomas Corner, a 27-year-old resident of Grey Street in Crook, County Durham, appeared at Durham Crown Court on Tuesday, December 23, 2024, via video link from HMP Holme House in Stockton. During the plea hearing, he pleaded guilty to six serious charges related to child sexual exploitation.

The offences, all involving young children, occurred between August 2024 and November 2024. Corner admitted to four counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and one count of making indecent images of a child. These admissions came after Corner was charged and remanded in custody.

Annelise Haugstad, the prosecuting counsel, highlighted that Corner has a relevant past conviction, prompting the court to consider his potential danger to children. Recorder Geraldine Kelly, presiding over the case, agreed and ordered a pre-sentence report from the Probation Service, specifically addressing the defendant's dangerousness. She adjourned the proceedings to allow time for the report's preparation and remanded Corner in custody until his sentencing hearing on February 5, 2025.

Addressing Corner directly, Recorder Kelly stated: "You have pleaded guilty to these offences. They are very serious and you know you should expect to be sent to custody. The question is: 'Just how long?'" As a result of his guilty pleas, Corner is now subject to registration as a sex offender, with the duration to be determined at the sentencing hearing. The case was reported by The Northern Echo, with coverage by crime and court reporter Bruce Unwin.
