Ference Bogdan, a 33-year-old man from Pollard Street in Fartown, Huddersfield, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on 6 November 2025 to 16 years and ten months' imprisonment for a series of burglary and sexual offences committed in the Huddersfield area between 2023 and 2024.
The offences began on 1 November 2023, when Bogdan broke into a property on Ashbrow Road in Huddersfield and stole personal items belonging to the occupant. Less than a month later, on 24 November 2023, he returned to the same address, trespassing with the clear intention to commit a sexual offence. Detectives later described these actions as indicative of Bogdan's particular interest in targeting women and stealing intimate personal items, such as underwear, which they viewed as evidence of the risk he posed.
On 1 November 2023: Burglary at Ashbrow Road, stealing personal items. On 24 November 2023: Trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence at the same Ashbrow Road address. In September 2024: Burglary at an address on Ridding Road, where he stole adult sex toys. On 28 September 2024: The most serious incident involved Bogdan breaking into a woman's home in Huddersfield, where he committed a sexual assault. The victim resisted, causing him to flee the property. Bogdan was arrested shortly after the 28 September 2024 assault, following the victim's swift report to police. He was charged and appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court two days later. In total, he was convicted of six offences, including sexual assault, trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence, and multiple burglaries.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Thornes of Kirklees District Police, part of West Yorkshire Police, commented on the case: "In our minds there is no doubt Ference Bogdan presents a real danger to women and we welcome his sentencing." Thornes praised the bravery of the September 2024 victim, noting that her prompt reporting allowed officers to locate and arrest Bogdan on the same night, removing him from the streets. He added: "He put his victim from 28 September through a terrifying experience in the very place she should have expected to feel safe." The detective also appealed for other potential victims in Huddersfield who may have experienced similar burglaries involving stolen personal items but had not reported them, emphasising the importance of such investigations given the risks posed by individuals like Bogdan.
The case was handled by West Yorkshire Police's Kirklees District team, highlighting ongoing efforts to protect women from predatory behaviour. Bogdan's sentencing was seen as a significant step in addressing his pattern of offending, which combined burglary with sexual motivations.
