Offence Summary

Abid Saddiq, formerly of Rotherham, committed indecent assault and multiple rapes against two young girls as part of a child grooming gang in the early 2000s.

Full Description

Abid Saddiq, aged 43 and formerly of Rotherham, was convicted in Operation Stovewood, the NCA's probe into Rotherham's child sexual exploitation from 1997 to 2013, following the 2014 Jay Report on 1,400 abused girls.

The nine-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court outlined how Saddiq and six others exploited two girls in care, aged 11 and 15, in the early 2000s. Using cars, they gave the victims cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, and money before assaulting, forcing sexual acts, or raping them. Saddiq was found guilty of indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl, rape of a girl under 13, and two further counts of rape.

One victim told the court: "You ruined my life - I won't let you ruin my future... You won't ever take anything from me ever again." She had endured abuse from 150 men by 16. The second victim's statement: "All I wanted was to be loved and part of a family."

CPS's Zoe Becker called it horrific cruelty: "Exploited them for their own sexual gratification." NCA investigator Stuart Cobb praised the victims' bravery, labelling the men manipulative with some of the worst offending.

Already serving 20 years for a separate case, Saddiq was jailed for 24 years on 12 and 13 September 2024 at Sheffield Crown Court, with one year on extended licence.
