Offence Summary

Graham Stubbs molested a 44-year-old woman by groping her chest and later sexually assaulted her while she slept at his home in Southsea after offering help when she felt unwell.

Full Description

A 71-year-old pensioner from Southsea, Graham Stubbs, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 44-year-old woman at his home on St Andrews Road. The incident occurred on 10 September 2023, when the woman, feeling unwell, accepted Stubbs' offer of assistance. However, Stubbs exploited her vulnerability, first groping her chest despite her clear rejection, and then assaulting her again while she slept.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard that Stubbs, described as depraved by investigators, initially approached the woman under the pretence of helping her as she felt sick. When she declined his advances, he persisted and carried out the assaults. He was arrested shortly after and charged with sexual assault and sexual assault by digital penetration. Stubbs admitted both charges during proceedings.

Detective Constable Amy Thatcher of Hampshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: “Stubbs abused the victim’s trust after offering to help her as she was feeling unwell. Instead of helping her, he preyed upon her and sexually assaulted her. I welcome the extended period of his sentence that ensures that he can’t target other women.” She praised the victim's resilience, noting her extraordinary courage in coming forward, which helped secure justice and prevent further offences.

The sentencing, delivered in March 2026, included 11 years imprisonment, with an additional eight months served concurrently. This significant custodial term reflects the severity of the sexual offences committed against a vulnerable individual in a position of trust.
