Full Description

Jack Stott, a 23-year-old resident of Orion Close in Southampton, carried out a brutal rape against a woman at an address in the Swaythling area of the city in December 2023. The attack was marked by Stott's repeated disregard for the victim's desperate pleas for him to stop, as he forced himself upon her in a display of cruelty that shocked the court.

Following the incident, the woman confronted Stott via messages, during which he openly admitted to committing the rape, expressing confusion over his own actions by stating he did not know why he had done it. This admission played a crucial role in the subsequent investigation led by Detective Constable Rebecca Grannon of Hampshire Constabulary.

Stott appeared before Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday, 9 December 2024, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of rape. The court heard harrowing details of the assault, highlighting Stott's vile behaviour not only in the crime itself but also during proceedings, including threats directed towards the victim, which underscored his utter disregard for others.

The judge imposed an eight-year custodial sentence on Stott, alongside a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future conduct. Additionally, Stott was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and will serve an extended four years on licence upon his release, ensuring ongoing monitoring to protect the public.

Detective Constable Grannon praised the victim's bravery in coming forward, noting that her strength was vital in securing the conviction. She described Stott as a 'vile and cruel man' whose actions demanded the strongest response from the justice system, emphasising that the sentence both holds him accountable and safeguards the community from further harm.
