Full Description

Martyn Daniel Birks, a 32-year-old man from Biddulph, Staffordshire, was involved in online child sex offences that came to light through intelligence received by Staffordshire Police. In May 2025, officers acted on information indicating that Birks had uploaded indecent images of children to a social media platform, leading to his arrest.

Upon arrest, police seized Birks's mobile phone and two tablets, which were subsequently searched. The examination revealed more than 200 indecent images of children on the devices. Birks, who initially remained silent during his custody interview, faced charges for three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.

On Tuesday, 6 January 2026, Birks appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre, where he pleaded guilty to the offences. The case was handled by PC Sam Houghton from Staffordshire Police's public protection unit, who commented on the investigation: 'When Birks was first interviewed in custody, he stayed silent, but we worked hard to gather evidence against him which has now led to him admitting the offences in court. We are committed to taking action against those who make and distribute indecent images of children across Staffordshire.'

Birks is scheduled to be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 20 March 2026. This case underscores Staffordshire Police's ongoing efforts to combat the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material online, with the force emphasising its dedication to public protection in the region.
