Offence Summary

Married Birmingham businessman Simon Tang battered a sex worker with a baseball bat and raped her after a consensual encounter turned violent in Walsall.

Full Description

Simon Tang, a married businessman and family man from Birmingham, was found guilty of raping a sex worker in Walsall. Tang, described as a sex addict who had been a regular customer of escorts for five years without prior issues, paid the woman £20 for sex. What began as a consensual encounter escalated into violence when Tang battered her with a baseball bat before raping her twice.

The attack took place in Walsall, and the victim reported the incident to West Midlands Police shortly after. Evidence included the woman's injuries consistent with being struck by the bat, as well as Tang's admissions to assault and possession of an offensive weapon. Despite his denials of the rape charges, the jury at Birmingham Crown Court convicted him based on the prosecution's case, which highlighted the sudden shift from consensual activity to brutal assault.

Sentencing occurred in March 2026, where the judge noted Tang's respectable facade contrasted sharply with his violent actions, causing severe trauma to the victim. Tang was sentenced to nine years and six months' imprisonment, with an extended three-year licence to manage his risk. The case was reported by Birmingham Live, drawing attention to the hidden dangers in such encounters.
