Offence Summary

Naleen Thota, a senior doctor, abused his position and power to sexually assault female members of staff.

Full Description

Senior doctor Naleen Thota, 55, from Swansea, was sentenced on 8 April 2025 for sexually assaulting female colleagues by abusing his authoritative position. South Wales Police investigated complaints from hospital staff, uncovering a pattern of harassment and assault within the workplace.

At Swansea Crown Court, testimonies from victims detailed how Thota used his seniority to coerce and assault them. Evidence included emails and witness accounts supporting the claims. Thota denied the allegations initially but was convicted after a trial.

The judge said, 'As a doctor, you were in a position of trust, which you grossly betrayed.' A victim quoted, 'His power silenced us for too long; this verdict empowers others to speak.' The case has implications for workplace safeguarding in the NHS, with calls for better reporting mechanisms.
