Full Description

An Orpington man, Reece Harding, has been charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with two children after sending explicit online messages to decoy accounts operated by paedophile hunters.

Harding, aged 24 and residing on Plantation Drive in Orpington, believed he was messaging girls under the age of 16. On 30 July 2023, he sent messages to one decoy account including 'let me see your boobs', 'take your bra off', and 'I want you in my bed', along with a photo of his penis. Between 22 and 28 January 2024, he targeted a second account, asking 'wanna have sex?' and sending videos of himself masturbating.

Paedophile hunters confronted Harding at his doorstep on 28 January 2024, leading to his arrest. He was charged with two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. Harding pleaded guilty to both charges at Bromley Magistrates’ Court in September 2024. The case was committed to Croydon Crown Court for sentencing, with the hearing scheduled for a later date following his appearance on 27 October 2024.

The incident highlights the role of vigilante groups in identifying potential online predators, though formal investigations were conducted by the Metropolitan Police following the confrontation. No further details on the sentencing outcome were available at the time of reporting.
