Offence Summary

Full Description

Eddie Huxley, a 70-year-old resident of Cookham, Berkshire, has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years' imprisonment for his role in a notorious paedophile gang that systematically abused vulnerable boys in the North Wales care system over four decades ago. The conviction forms part of Operation Pallial, a major investigation conducted by the National Crime Agency (NCA) into historic child sexual exploitation and abuse in care homes during the 1970s and 1980s.

Huxley, formerly a civil servant in Wrexham, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault at Mold Crown Court in North Wales. The trial, which concluded on 30 June 2015, saw him convicted alongside four other men who were also part of the gang. The offences involved the targeting of young and vulnerable boys, exploiting their circumstances to perpetrate sexual abuse. The court's proceedings highlighted the devious and systematic nature of the gang's actions, preying on children in institutional care who were particularly susceptible to manipulation.

The sentencing took place shortly after the guilty verdict, with Huxley receiving four-and-a-half years in prison. This outcome was welcomed by Ed Beltrami, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wales, who stated: "This abhorrent paedophile gang targeted young and vulnerable boys in a systematic and devious manner. The vulnerability of the victims made them easy prey for the gang. Their fortitude in coming forward to report what happened to them has led to these convictions. Whilst the criminal justice process cannot put right the wrongs committed by these individuals, we hope that the victims will take some solace in knowing that their abusers have been brought to justice." The case underscores the long-term impact of such crimes and the importance of historical investigations in delivering justice.

Operation Pallial was launched to address allegations of widespread abuse in North Wales care homes, involving hundreds of victims. Huxley's involvement came to light through survivor testimonies, leading to the arrests and trials of multiple perpetrators. The NCA's efforts have resulted in several convictions, providing closure to those affected by the historic abuses.
