Offence Summary

Vincenzo Montessori, aged 20, was sentenced to five years in a young offender institution for sexual assault after assaulting an intoxicated woman at a house party.

Full Description

On 27 December 2020, Vincenzo Montessori, then 17 years old, attended a house party in Ellesmere Port alongside other young attendees, including his co-offender George Johnson. The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was heavily intoxicated and later informed by a friend that she had been sexually assaulted, leading her to contact Cheshire Constabulary.

During the police probe, a video recovered from a phone belonging to a partygoer depicted Montessori and Johnson alternately sexually assaulting the victim, who was clearly unable to consent due to her intoxicated condition. The clear footage showed the non-consensual nature of the acts, with the victim incapacitated and unable to prevent the assault.

Montessori, residing on Polden Close in Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port, pleaded guilty to sexual assault prior to trial. He appeared at Chester Crown Court on 21 June 2024 and received a sentence of five years in a young offender institution. Alongside the imprisonment, Montessori is bound by a restraining order and required to register as a sex offender.

DC Joe Duckworth from Cheshire Constabulary praised the victim's courage in the face of adversity, remarking: 'This crime has resulted in two young people being sentenced and a woman having to live the rest of her life with the knowledge of what happened to her.' He further addressed the offenders' culpability: 'They chose to take advantage of a woman while she could not consent, now they need to live with the consequences of their actions.' The investigation and sentencing highlight ongoing efforts to address sexual exploitation and the role of digital evidence in prosecutions.

Chester Crown Court's decision reinforces protections for victims, with the force reminding the public of the victim's legal right to anonymity in such cases.
