Christopher Postans, a 43-year-old man from Ombersley Road in Worcester, has a history of sexual offences against children, earning him the label of paedophile from the courts. In 2003, he met a 14-year-old girl through an internet chat room and engaged in penetrative sex with her, leading to a community rehabilitation order in 2005, which he later breached along with notification requirements.
More recently, between April 1 and May 24, 2019, in Malvern, Postans used Instagram to communicate sexually with three underage girls, all aged 13. He messaged one girl, describing a photo of what he believed to be her bottom as 'a nice picture', which she deemed inappropriate. He attempted to meet her on April 16, 2019, at 11pm in Victoria Park, Malvern, telling her 'you don’t need to be scared - I just want to talk' and 'kiss me', despite her stating 'I'm 13 though'. Postans responded: 'Would you let me?' To another 13-year-old, he sent a topless photo of himself, making her feel 'really uncomfortable'. With the third girl, he discussed 'being naughty and smacking bums' and again sent his topless photo.
Postans attempted to meet one of the victims, a 14-year-old girl, in Victoria Park with the intent to sexually assault her. The girl informed her father, prompting police involvement and Postans's arrest. In his interview, he made limited admissions but denied any sexual motivation. Last June, appearing via videolink from HMP Hewell at Worcester Crown Court, he admitted three counts of sexual communication with children and an attempt to meet a child following sexual grooming.
On July 2020, at Hereford Crown Court, Recorder Jason MacAdam sentenced him to 27 months in prison, imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, and required him to remain on the sex offender register for 10 years. The judge remarked: 'This is familiar territory for you. You have done this sort of thing before some considerable time ago.' He added: 'The fact is you’re a paedophile. You’re sexually attracted to children. I have no doubt whatsoever if you had met any of these children you would have abused them in the same way you abused your victim in the past.'
Despite these measures, on July 23, 2020, Postans breached the order by having unsupervised contact with children near the Elgar Statue in Worcester High Street, before proceeding to Starbucks. This violation led to his appearance at Worcester Crown Court, where Judge James Burbidge QC jailed him for four months on August 27, 2020. The case was prosecuted by Amiee Parkes, with Sam Lamsdale representing the defendant. Andrew Wilkins, in the earlier prosecution, highlighted the predatory nature of Postans's actions. This incident underscores Postans's ongoing risk to children in Worcester, as the order was specifically designed to safeguard the community.
