Terence Kamara, a 26-year-old man of no fixed address, committed a series of exposure offences in Canterbury, Kent, in March 2022, targeting unsuspecting members of the public, including vulnerable teenage girls. His actions caused significant distress to the victims and demonstrated a blatant disregard for public safety.
The first incident occurred on the afternoon of 22 March 2022, when security personnel at Whitefriars shopping centre observed Kamara acting inappropriately near the public toilets via CCTV footage. They promptly contacted Kent Police, who arrived at the scene and found Kamara in a state of undress. He was arrested immediately. While in custody, officers received reports from two separate teenage girls who described how a man matching Kamara's appearance had exposed himself and performed an indecent act in front of them earlier that day.
On 22 March 2022, Kamara targeted two teenage girls with exposure and indecent acts. Released on bail for further enquiries, he reoffended on 28 March 2022, exposing himself to a woman in her 20s in the North Holmes Road area of Canterbury. Despite being released on bail to allow for additional investigations, Kamara offended again on 28 March 2022. In this instance, he approached a woman in her 20s in the North Holmes Road area and exposed himself, performing another indecent act in her presence. This repeat offence underscored the severity of his behaviour and the ongoing threat he posed.
Kamara was charged with engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and three counts of exposure. He pleaded guilty to all charges at an earlier hearing. On 20 October 2022, he appeared at Canterbury Crown Court, where he was sentenced to two years and four months' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required Kamara to sign the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
Investigating officer PC Pat McKenna of Kent Police commented on the case, stating: 'There is no excuse for the disgraceful offences committed by Terence Kamara, whose actions caused great distress for the woman and girls who witnessed them. He made no attempts to hide what he was doing and clearly poses a serious threat to innocent members of the public.' McKenna further emphasised Kent Police's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, noting that the force takes robust action against such criminals. The case was reported by UKNIP on 29 October 2022, highlighting the police's swift response and the court's decisive sentencing.
