Offence Summary

George Ashcroft obtained indecent images of children involved in sexual situations with adults and erotic posing, which was discovered after his wife reported him missing to police, leading to his court appearance.

Full Description

George Ashcroft, a former Dingwall man now residing in Lybster, Caithness, faced Inverness Sheriff Court over his possession of child abuse images.

Ashcroft could not explain his interest in child abuse material. Between 17 June 2024 and 9 July 2024, while staying at a property on Achany Road in Dingwall, he obtained images depicting children in sexual situations with adults and erotic posing. The court was told that this sordid secret came to light when his concerned wife reported him missing to the police.

Sheriff Sara Matheson heard that Ashcroft's actions cost him his family and led to repercussions from his community. The case highlighted the severe personal and social consequences of such offences.

Details were reported in the North Star News Sheriff Court round-up published on 24 November 2025.
