Alan Wigglesworth, a 45-year-old man from Doncaster, was convicted at Grimsby Crown Court of seven counts of non-recent sexual offences against two young girls. The trial, which lasted five days and concluded on 28 November 2025, revealed a pattern of manipulation and abuse spanning several years.
The offences came to light on 24 June 2025, when a 13-year-old girl disclosed to a trusted adult that she had been inappropriately touched and sexually abused by Wigglesworth over a number of years. The adult reported the allegation to Humberside Police, prompting an immediate investigation by the force's Protecting Vulnerable People Unit. During initial engagements, the girl made further disclosures that her friend had suffered similar abuse at the hands of the same man.
Enquiries established that Wigglesworth had lured the two 13-year-old girls with alcohol, using it to lower their inhibitions before performing sexual acts on them. He also employed threats, warning the girls that they would be taken away from their families if they revealed what was happening. The charges included two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, one count of assault by penetration, and one count of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Wigglesworth was arrested at his workplace in June 2025 on suspicion of sexual assault of two children under 13. During police interviews, he denied all knowledge of the offences and claimed innocence. Evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charges, leading to his remand in custody. Detective Constable Nathan LeQuelenec, who led the investigation for Humberside Police, described the case in detail: 'Wigglesworth enticed the young and vulnerable teenagers with alcohol and even threatened them that they would be taken away if they ever tried to tell anyone about what he was doing to them. He cruelly took advantage of them, luring them in to sexually assault and abuse them all for his own perverse sexual gratification.' LeQuelenec also noted Wigglesworth's not guilty plea as potentially another attempt to control the victims, forcing them through the trauma of a trial.
Following the guilty verdict, Wigglesworth was remanded in custody to await sentencing on 6 February 2026 at Grimsby Crown Court. The case underscores the long-term impact of such abuses, with the detective commending the victims for their courage in coming forward despite the challenges involved.
