Offence Summary

Vruj Patel and his brother were jailed for possessing and creating videos and pictures of child sexual offences against young girls, including rape and voyeurism; Vruj received 22 years in prison.

Full Description

Vruj Patel, 26, from Upton Park, and his brother Kishan Patel were sentenced in October for their involvement in child sexual exploitation and related offences. The brothers were found to have kept videos and pictures depicting sex crimes against young girls, leading to Vruj's 22-year prison sentence and Kishan's 15 months.

The Metropolitan Police became aware of the material in February following a third-party report about videos of child sexual offending discovered on a device sent for repair. The footage showed offences committed against a young girl, and officers traced the device back to Kishan Patel. Further investigation revealed Vruj Patel's face visible in one of the child abuse videos, directly implicating him.

Detectives uncovered additional evidence against Vruj, including pictures and video footage of him committing a rape against a young woman after a night out, as well as acts of voyeurism against another young girl. The court heard details of the brothers' possession and creation of this abusive material, which involved severe exploitation of minors. The case was prosecuted based on digital forensics and witness reports, highlighting the role of technology in both committing and detecting such crimes.

The sentencing in October reflected the gravity of the offences, with Vruj receiving a substantial term due to his active participation in the recorded acts. The Metropolitan Police statement noted the importance of public reports in bringing such paedophiles to justice, emphasising the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse material.
