Offence Summary

Csongor Sandor, a former Hungarian police officer living in Luton, was jailed for sexually assaulting a child under 13 and possessing indecent images of children, with a photo of the assault discovered on his phone.

Full Description

A former Hungarian police officer, Csongor Sandor, has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for committing sexual offences against a child and possessing indecent images, in a case described by the judge as exhibiting 'extraordinary levels of perversion'.

Sandor, aged 30 and residing at Dallow Road in Luton, Bedfordshire, was arrested in June 2016 following a police investigation prompted by specific information. Officers discovered a disturbing photograph on his mobile phone depicting him sexually assaulting a young girl, which he had captured three months earlier. Additional images of children were also found stored on the device, confirming his involvement in the creation and possession of indecent material.

At Luton Crown Court, Sandor pleaded guilty to one count of sexually assaulting a child under 13 and three counts of making indecent images of children. The court heard that Sandor had moved to the UK from Budapest four years prior to his arrest and was employed at an Amazon depot in Hemel Hempstead. Despite being described as a 'man of good character' in professional terms, his actions revealed a serious risk to children.

Judge Michael Kay QC, presiding over the case, acknowledged Sandor's apparent willingness to seek help for his urges but emphasised the ongoing danger he posed to the public. 'Although you appear willing to seek help to tackle your urges concerning children, you pose a risk to the public of committing further serious offences,' the judge stated. He imposed a custodial sentence of eight years and eight months, followed by an extended licence period of five years upon release. Sandor was also placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

The case was investigated by Bedfordshire Police, highlighting the importance of digital forensics in uncovering child sexual exploitation. This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for those who perpetrate such crimes, with the judiciary prioritising public protection.
