A 24-year-old man from Hayes has been sentenced to life imprisonment following a series of violent sexual offences in west London parks. Navroop Singh, of Mellow Lane East, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on 4 December 2024, where he received a minimum term of 14 years for five charges. The convictions stem from incidents in October 2023 and October 2024, highlighting a pattern of predatory behaviour targeting vulnerable individuals.
The first incident occurred in the early hours at Southall Park, where Singh lay in wait on a bench for a potential victim. Armed with an imitation firearm he had ordered and assembled, Singh approached a woman, threatened her with the weapon, and attempted to rape her. The victim managed to alert two off-duty Metropolitan Police officers near the park gates, who responded immediately. Singh was later convicted of attempted rape and possession of an imitation firearm following a four-day trial.
Attempted rape of a woman in Southall Park, October 2024 Possession of an imitation firearm While the investigation into the Southall attack was underway, detectives linked Singh to another horrific assault at Hayes End recreation ground in October 2023. In this case, Singh raped a girl under 13 and assaulted her by penetration. He had pleaded guilty to these charges prior to trial: rape of a girl under 13 and assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, as well as possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Metropolitan Police detectives built a robust case using forensics, CCTV footage, and witness accounts. They traced Singh to within a few doors of his home, distributing leaflets to appeal for witnesses and increasing patrols in the area. Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch, who leads policing in the West Area, commended the bravery of the victim-survivors and their families. 'Today’s conviction is testament to the officers’ thorough investigation, which has identified a violent sexual offender and undoubtedly prevented further harm,' Lynch stated. He added that the force is prioritising tackling violence against women and girls through increased specialist teams, offering reassurance to the community that this predator has been put behind bars.
The sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court marks a significant outcome in protecting the public from Singh's dangerous actions, with the life term ensuring long-term incarceration.
