Full Description

On the evening of 12 October 2019, Jimi Mallett, a 25-year-old man from Alconbury, visited the home of a woman in Hartford, Huntingdon, to get ready for a night out with friends. While in her bedroom, Mallett approached her from behind and carried out a sexual assault. The victim repeatedly told him 'no', but he persisted until she was able to pull away and escape the situation.

The following day, Mallett sent apologetic messages to the victim regarding the incident. However, she reported the assault to the police, leading to his arrest. Initially, Mallett denied the offence, but he later changed his plea to guilty for sexual assault at Peterborough Crown Court.

On 14 April 2021, Mallett was sentenced at the same court. He received a nine-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years. In addition, he was issued with a five-year restraining order, required to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and added to the Sex Offenders Register for five years. The sentencing was covered in a report by The Hunts Post on 15 April 2021, highlighting the court's response to the crime.

Detective Constable Joe Passby, from Cambridgeshire Constabulary, commented on the case: 'It must have been horrific for the victim to suffer this unexpected ordeal in her own home. I would like to commend the woman for the bravery she has shown in reporting the incident and supporting the conviction. We understand reporting sexual assault can be really difficult but I hope the sentencing highlights our commitment to bringing offenders to justice.' The incident underscores the challenges victims face in their own homes and the importance of reporting such crimes.
