Full Description

Adrian Phipps, aged 66 and formerly a DJ at Harrogate Hospital Radio Station, was jailed for four years and four months in August 2025 at York Crown Court following his conviction for sexually abusing a teenage boy in the 1990s.

Phipps was found guilty of two counts of indecently assaulting an underage boy after a trial. He was acquitted of six further counts of the same charge. The court heard how Phipps, described as 'cunning and calculating', would lure the victim to a room at his workplace in Harrogate and force himself upon the boy. The victim later shared his powerful story exclusively with The Stray Ferret, detailing the enduring trauma of the abuse.

Upon sentencing, the judge placed Phipps on the sex offenders’ register for life, issued a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), and added him to the permanent barred list, prohibiting him from working with children. This historical child sex abuse case, part of the shocking crimes that impacted the Harrogate district in 2025, demonstrates the ongoing pursuit of justice for survivors of sexual offences.
