Offence Summary

Daniel Garside, a paedophile from Liversedge, Yorkshire, was jailed for 19 years after admitting to multiple serious sexual offences, including rapes and sexual assaults against two young girls under 13, and producing indecent images.

Full Description

Daniel Garside, a 40-year-old man from Waltons Heights in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against vulnerable young girls. Garside admitted to 15 serious sexual offences against his first victim, including rape, attempted rape, and causing a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced for 20 separate sexual offences, encompassing multiple counts of rape.

The abuse against the first victim occurred when she was a young girl aged under 13. A heartbreaking victim impact statement was read out in court, detailing the profound and lasting damage caused by Garside's actions. The victim described suffering from depression, confidence issues, and difficulties in forming relationships, stating: 'I wish none of this had happened and I could just live my life normally but instead I must live with what happened and the effect it has had on me. I feel like I’m broken.' This statement underscored the devastating long-term effects of the abuse on her life.

In addition to the offences against the first victim, Garside was convicted of two counts of sexual assault and three counts of making indecent images against a second victim, who was also just a young child when the sexual abuse began. The second victim's impact statement, read to the court, revealed her feelings of violation and discomfort in everyday interactions, noting that even 'something as innocent as a friend giving me a hug' now made her feel uncomfortable. These crimes highlighted Garside's pattern of targeting and exploiting the most vulnerable members of society.

Garside's crimes came to light in June 2025 when the first victim bravely came forward to disclose the abuse she had endured. West Yorkshire Police's Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit launched an immediate investigation, leading to Garside's swift arrest. Through diligent police work, officers identified the second victim, who later provided crucial support to the investigation and prosecution. The case was handled by Leeds Crown Court, where the severity of Garside's manipulative and dangerous behaviour was fully recognised.

Detective Constable Angus Whitehead of the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit commented on the sentencing, stating: 'We welcome the sentence handed down to Daniel Garside today by Leeds Crown Court. Garside is a dangerous and manipulative offender who has engaged in a campaign of sexual abuse against some of the most vulnerable in our society. This lengthy prison sentence reflects how egregious Garside was in his offending. I commend the victims for their courage and fortitude throughout the investigation in the face of Garside’s continued dishonesty. I can only hope this result brings them some solace and closure.' The court's decision served as a strong affirmation of justice for the victims and a warning against such predatory behaviour.
