Full Description

A former scout leader, Silvester from Brighton, has been sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment for sexually assaulting 19 boys. He was found guilty of 79 offences following a trial at Lewes Crown Court on 20 November 2024.

The offences involved the sexual abuse of young boys during his time as a scout leader. The case was prosecuted by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) following an investigation by Sussex Police. The court heard details of the systematic abuse, which spanned several years and affected multiple victims within the scouting community.

Silvester was sentenced today at Lewes Crown Court. He will also serve an extended licence period after his release. The CPS highlighted the severity of the crimes, noting the breach of trust in a position meant to protect and guide young people.

Quote from CPS: 'This was a gross abuse of trust by someone in a position of authority over children.' The sentencing reflects the court's recognition of the long-term impact on the victims.
