Offence Summary

Kamar Ilyas, along with his brother, groomed and sexually abused a girl aged 12 to 14 in Sheffield between 2004 and 2006 using alcohol, drugs, and gifts, leading to convictions for rape and sexual activity with a child.

Full Description

Two brothers from Sheffield, Kamar Ilyas and Kamran Ilyas, were found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court of committing serious sexual offences against a young girl over two decades ago. The offences occurred between 2004 and 2006, when Kamar was aged between 17 and 19, and the victim was between 12 and 14 years old.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) detailed how the brothers employed grooming tactics, including providing the girl with alcohol, drugs, and gifts, to facilitate their abuse. They took her to various locations around Sheffield to perpetrate the acts, which included rape and sexual activity with a child. The trial, which concluded on 9 March 2026, resulted in convictions for both men following evidence presented to the jury.

  • The brothers used drink, drugs, and gifts to groom the vulnerable girl.
  • Abuse took place in multiple locations in the Sheffield area.
  • The victim suffered serious and lifelong harm as a result of the offences.

Martin McRobb, Specialist Prosecutor for the CPS, stated: "The brothers Kamar Ilyas and Kamran Ilyas groomed a young and vulnerable girl with alcohol and drugs. They took her to a variety of locations in the Sheffield area in order to feed their vile sexual appetite by raping and sexually abusing her. As a result, they caused the victim serious and lifelong harm." He further commended the victim's courage in coming forward after many years, noting her determination was crucial in securing justice.

Sentencing for Kamar Ilyas and his brother was scheduled for 22 June 2026 at Sheffield Crown Court. The case underscores the CPS's commitment to pursuing child sexual abuse perpetrators regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes.
