Offence Summary

George Voisey, a former police officer, admitted to downloading a Category A video of children being sexually abused and indecent images of children, receiving a suspended six-month prison sentence and placement on the sex offenders' register for seven years.

Full Description

George Voisey, a 24-year-old former police officer from Horsham, appeared at Lewes Crown Court where he was sentenced for offences involving indecent images of children. Voisey had previously pleaded guilty to three counts: downloading one Category A video depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as nine, and two counts of downloading indecent images. The offences occurred between 22 June and 24 October 2023.

Investigators from Sussex Police, alerted by the National Crime Agency in October 2023, arrested Voisey and suspended him from duty. A search of his mobile phone revealed the Category A video, which he had downloaded via the Telegram app and sent to himself on Snapchat, along with five Category B and seven Category C indecent images of children. At the time of the offences, Voisey was not on duty, and he subsequently resigned from the force on 1 March 2024.

During the sentencing on 11 July 2025, Judge Stephen Mooney addressed Voisey directly, stating: 'Up until now you were of good character and had a promising career, all of which you have thrown away. You have chosen to seek out images and a video of children being abused. Each image or video you look at is a permanent record of a child's life that has been ruined. Each is a child in torment and you have contributed to that. You are a disgrace.' The judge branded Voisey 'a disgrace' for his actions, highlighting the severe impact on the victims depicted in the material.

Voisey was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was also required to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity and 150 hours of unpaid work, and will be subject to the sex offenders' register for seven years. Sussex Police has referred the matter to the Independent Office of Police Conduct for further investigation into potential misconduct.

This case, reported by BBC News South East on 11 July 2025, underscores the serious nature of child sexual exploitation material offences, even among those in positions of public trust like former officers.
