Full Description

Seven men, including Wadie Sharaf, faced court over allegations of group-based child sexual exploitation in Bristol, as detailed in proceedings at Bristol Magistrates’ Court. The charges relate to offences against 11 girls aged 14 to 17 between 2022 and 2025, following an Avon and Somerset Police investigation.

Wadie Sharaf, a 21-year-old Syrian national from Westbury Park, Bristol, was charged with one count of rape, one count of attempted rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of sexual activity with a child. Triggered by concerns in November 2023 about a teenage victim's exploitation, the probe led to arrests in April 2024, with further evidence gathering.

Sharaf appeared before District Judge Lynne Matthews on Wednesday after re-arrest on Tuesday. No pleas were entered, and he was remanded in custody for the next appearance on 17 December at Bristol Crown Court. Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert remarked: “Officers have been working around the clock to identify potential offences and we’ve worked extremely closely with the CPS to reach this highly significant stage.”

James Bolton-Smith of the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit highlighted the investigative focus on Bristol's exploitation network, stressing the importance of fair trial protections. The case underscores police efforts in victim safeguarding and community awareness initiatives.
