Full Description

A 44-year-old man from Portsmouth has been imprisoned for 14 years following his conviction for a series of violent sexual offences against a woman in her thirties. The case, which came to trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and sexual assault within the community.

The offences occurred in May 2023 at a property on Eastney Road in Portsmouth. Jacek Piotr Pupiec, residing on Newcombe Road, assaulted and raped the victim, who was known to him. The charges included rape, intentional strangulation, assault, and threatening behaviour with an offensive weapon. These acts were uncovered through a thorough investigation by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary's specialist Operation Amberstone team.

After a four-day trial, Pupiec was found guilty on all counts. On Friday, 8th August 2025, he was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court to 14 years' imprisonment. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and subjected to an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.

DC Ellie Light from the Operation Amberstone team stated: "I am delighted to see Pupiec imprisoned for a substantial period for his appalling offences. I trust that this sentence, along with the indefinite restraining order imposed on Pupiec, will provide the victim with some measure of closure and a feeling of justice following her ordeal." She praised the victim's courage and cooperation throughout the investigation and proceedings.

The case underscores the constabulary's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, with dedicated units ensuring that such allegations are investigated seriously. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the legal repercussions for perpetrators of sexual violence.
