Offence Summary

Timothy Gresswell downloaded over 1,500 indecent images of children and received an 18-month suspended prison sentence.

Full Description

Timothy Gresswell, former owner of Tim’s Newsagent and Off Licence in High Street, Oxford, until its closure in 2022, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court in 2025 for downloading more than 1,500 indecent images of children. He had pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.

Despite the large volume of material, Gresswell avoided immediate custody and received an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. The court considered mitigating factors, but stressed the seriousness of possessing such extensive child abuse imagery.

The case was handled by Thames Valley Police, who raided Gresswell's premises at Gloucester Green, Oxford, uncovering the illegal downloads. This sentencing reflects a balance between punishment and rehabilitation in non-contact offences.
