Offence Summary

Jordan Osbourne was jailed for five years after raping an 18-year-old woman in her bedroom following her agreement to let him sleep on her sofa.

Full Description

A man from near Rye has been sentenced to five years in prison for raping a woman in her own home. Jordan Osbourne, aged 22 and residing in Parkwood, Iden, was found guilty of the sexual offence following a trial at Brighton Crown Court.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 3 January 2022. The victim, an 18-year-old woman, had agreed to allow Osbourne to sleep on her sofa in the living room. However, Osbourne followed her into her bedroom and raped her. The woman reported the assault to police in February 2022, prompting an immediate investigation by Sussex Police.

Specialist officers provided support to the victim throughout the process. Osbourne was arrested shortly after the report and taken into custody. He was charged with rape and stood trial at Brighton Crown Court, which lasted four days and concluded on 6 March 2025, when a jury unanimously found him guilty.

Sentencing took place at Hove Crown Court on 20 March 2025. In addition to the five-year custodial sentence, Osbourne was issued with a ten-year restraining order to protect the victim. Detective Constable Cally Fox of Sussex Police commented on the case, stating: "Jordan Osbourne’s victim trusted him and allowed him to sleep in her home. He betrayed that trust in the worst way." She also praised the victim's courage in reporting the incident and supporting the investigation.

The case was handled by Sussex Police, highlighting their commitment to pursuing justice in sexual offence matters. Osbourne's conviction serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences for such betrayals of trust.
