Derek Winston Seekings, 66, from Southern Way, Farnborough, Hampshire, a retired Surrey Police sergeant who left the force in 2005, was sentenced on 13 January 2021 at court for two counts of rape committed between 1994 and 2000 in Surrey. Charged in July 2019, Seekings received concurrent sentences: five-and-a-half years for one count and nine years for the other, with lifetime registration on the sex offenders register.

The attacks targeted a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, exploiting Seekings' position within the police. Surrey Police conducted an internal and criminal investigation, leading to his conviction despite the passage of time.

The judge, Stephen Mooney, described Seekings as a 'predator', emphasising the breach of trust. Half of one sentence is served in custody, with the rest on licence, allowing for potential recall.
