A 'dangerous and predatory' child rapist from Stockton has been jailed for 12 years following his admission to serious sexual offences against a young child. Kane Povey, aged 24 and residing on Devonshire Street in Stockton-on-Tees, was arrested by Cleveland Police in 2022 after receiving a report of sexual assault and rape involving a primary school-aged child.
The investigation led to Povey being charged with three counts of rape of a child under 13 and three counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. Initially denying the allegations, Povey proceeded to trial at Teesside Crown Court in September 2024. However, midway through the proceedings, he changed his plea and admitted to all six charges, resulting in his remand in custody until sentencing.
On 10 November 2024, at Teesside Crown Court, Povey was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment, with an additional year on licence, totalling 12 years under supervision. In addition to his custodial sentence, he has been placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for life. Upon release, he will face strict conditions and ongoing monitoring by specialist police officers to prevent further harm.
