Full Description

On 27 April 2025, a distressing incident occurred at Bognor beach in Sussex, where 53-year-old Olegas Podolianko was witnessed exposing himself near a children’s play area. The event unfolded in broad daylight, with parents and families present, heightening the severity of the public indecency offence.

Witnesses reported seeing Podolianko, formerly residing on Elmer Road in Middleton-on-Sea, engaging in the explicit act. Concerned parents immediately challenged him, prompting his departure from the scene. Sussex Police were alerted promptly, and officers arrested Podolianko shortly thereafter. The proximity to children underscored the potential harm and public safety concerns involved in such acts of exposure.

Podolianko admitted to the charge of exposure during proceedings at Portsmouth Crown Court. On 26 September 2025, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, a custodial term reflecting the court's view of the offence's gravity, particularly given its location near families and children. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for seven years, a measure to monitor and protect the community from potential reoffending.

Arun District Commander William Keating-Jones commented on the case, stating: “This was a distressing incident seen by parents with their children. We take reports of exposure extremely seriously, and Podolianko was arrested soon after the matter was reported to us. We are pleased that this offender is now serving a custodial sentence.” This statement from Sussex Police highlights their commitment to swift action in response to such reports, ensuring public safety at popular seaside locations like Bognor beach.

The case was handled by Sussex Police, with sentencing details confirmed through official court records. No further incidents involving Podolianko have been reported in connection with this matter, but the registration requirement aims to prevent future risks.
