Full Description

Mark Warren, a 51-year-old man from Gilberts End, Hanley Castle, appeared before Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, November 11, via video link from prison. He was sentenced for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and for 14 counts of failing to notify police of his whereabouts, requirements imposed upon him as a registered sex offender.

Warren had previously been convicted of serious sexual offences, including making indecent images of children and engaging in sexual communication with a child. These prior convictions led to the imposition of the SHPO and notification obligations designed to protect the public, particularly children, from potential harm. Despite these measures, Warren repeatedly failed to comply, thereby undermining the safeguards intended to monitor and manage the risks he posed.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright, presiding over the case at Worcester Crown Court, imposed an additional sentence of 14 months' imprisonment, to be served consecutively to the three-year prison term Warren was already serving for his earlier offences. Addressing Warren directly, the judge stated: 'The notification requirements are there to protect the public. You were supposed to be telling the police where you were so they knew where the risks lay so it was not an uncontrolled risk.' This sentencing underscores the court's commitment to enforcing protective orders rigorously to prevent uncontrolled risks to vulnerable individuals.

The case was reported by Leda Reynolds, Court and Crime Reporter for Worcester News, with imagery provided by West Mercia Police. It highlights ongoing efforts by authorities in Worcestershire to hold sex offenders accountable for compliance with legal restrictions.
