Michael Speed was jailed for eight years after admitting to five counts of indecently assaulting two boys aged between seven and 13 in the Cambridge area during the 1990s.

Full Description

Michael Speed, a 67-year-old resident of Lichfield Road in Cambridge, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on 7 May 2024 for committing multiple indecent assaults against two young boys in the Cambridge area during the 1990s.

The assaults occurred over several years, with one victim subjected to attacks on multiple occasions spanning a six-year period when he was aged between seven and 13. The second victim was assaulted once when he was approximately 12 or 13 years old. The incidents took place both in public locations and within a property in the Cambridge area, highlighting the predatory nature of Speed's actions.

Speed admitted to five counts of sexual assault during the proceedings at Cambridge Crown Court. The case was investigated by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, who emphasised their commitment to tackling sexual offences regardless of the time elapsed since the crimes occurred.

Detective Constable Eleanor Jaggard of Cambridgeshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: "This case once again shows that time is not a barrier to bringing people to justice. I would like to commend the victims for their bravery in reporting what happened to them all those years ago. Speed preyed on them in a despicable way, so I’m pleased he has now been jailed." The investigation underscores the constabulary's priority in pursuing perpetrators of sexual offences and supporting survivors through the criminal justice process.
