Full Description

A 29-year-old man from Jedburgh, Scotland, has been imprisoned for possessing indecent images of children, highlighting Police Scotland's commitment to tackling child sexual abuse offences.

Jayce Simpson was arrested on 24 February 2021 in Jedburgh as part of an ongoing investigation by the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit. The arrest followed intelligence and evidence gathering that linked Simpson to the possession of child abuse images. He appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, where he entered a guilty plea on 9 November 2021 to charges related to possessing and viewing indecent images depicting child victims.

On 20 December 2021, Simpson was sentenced to two years' imprisonment at the same court. The custodial sentence reflects the severity of the offences and the harm inflicted on the vulnerable children involved in the material.

Detective Inspector Adrian Ure from the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, Police Scotland, commented on the case: "Simpson demonstrated a complete and utter contempt for the child victims depicted in the images he was viewing. He also thought his behaviour would go undetected, thinking the internet would provide him with anonymity. However, he was found and is now facing a custodial sentence for his actions." Ure further emphasised the priority given to such cases, stating: "Any form of child sexual abuse is a serious criminal offence and remains a high priority for Police Scotland."

This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in the possession or distribution of child abuse material. Police Scotland continues to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in such activities to protect children from exploitation.
