Offence Summary

Anandarajah Bremakumar, a paedophile from Colindale, was jailed for 30 months after being found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child, having assaulted a young girl under 16 known to him in 2010.

Full Description

Anandarajah Bremakumar, a resident of Colindale in North London, has been sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment following his conviction for sexually assaulting a young girl. The abuse, which involved four counts of sexual activity with a child, occurred in 2010 and targeted a victim under the age of 16 who was known to the offender.

The case came to light several years later when, in 2019, a therapist contacted the Metropolitan Police regarding the allegations. Officers subsequently spoke with the victim and collected evidence from individuals who knew Bremakumar at the time of the incidents. Despite the delay in reporting, the investigation proceeded methodically, leading to Bremakumar's arrest on 30 April 2021.

Bremakumar denied the charges throughout the process. However, after a trial at Wood Green Crown Court concluded on 6 December 2023, he was found guilty on all four counts. Sentencing took place on 1 February 2024, where the judge imposed a 30-month custodial sentence, reflecting the seriousness of the child sex offences committed.

The Metropolitan Police, responsible for the investigation in the Barnet area, emphasised the importance of coming forward with such allegations, even after significant time has passed. This case underscores the ongoing efforts to hold perpetrators of sexual exploitation accountable, with the force gathering corroborative evidence to support the victim's account.
