Offence Summary

Artur Majewski, a lecturer at the University of Birmingham, admitted to making over 1,500 indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C, as well as possessing extreme material involving children and animals, spanning from 2014 to 2023.

Full Description

A University of Birmingham lecturer has pleaded guilty to serious child sex offences involving the creation and possession of thousands of indecent images of children. Artur Majewski, aged 50 and residing in Pershore, Worcestershire, appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 2, where he admitted to a series of charges related to illegal material.

The offences, which occurred between June 2014 and June 2023 in Worcestershire, included making 21 Category A indecent images—deemed the most severe, depicting penetrative sexual activity, sadism, or extreme acts involving children. Majewski also confessed to producing 59 Category B images showing non-penetrative sexual activity with children, and 1,488 Category C images involving indecent but not overtly sexual content, such as nudity. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to possessing an extreme image portraying intercourse with a live animal.

Majewski, who works as an associate professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, was released on bail following his plea. However, he has been subjected to strict conditions, including no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16. The university issued a statement confirming awareness of the charges, noting they do not relate to his employment, and stated that it is following internal procedures without further comment ahead of sentencing.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, January 31, at Worcester Crown Court. The case was reported by Worcester News, highlighting Majewski's long-term engagement with prohibited material over nearly a decade. This incident underscores ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation in the UK, with authorities emphasising the severity of such offences.
