Offence Summary

Shahram Ibrehemi lured a 13-year-old girl to a hotel room in Hull while she was heavily intoxicated and repeatedly raped her, with his accomplice keeping watch outside.

Full Description

Shahram Ibrehemi, then 19 years old and living in immigration-based accommodation in Hull, encountered a 13-year-old girl who was out with friends in Hull. Alongside his accomplice Riley Smith, then 18, Ibrehemi invited the girl to 'go around town with them' and mentioned they were staying at a hotel. The girl explicitly told them she was 13 and called them 'paedos', asking them to leave her alone, but they persisted and obtained her mobile number.

Later, after the girl had consumed three-quarters of a litre of vodka mixed with cherry Coke and was unable to walk in a straight line, Ibrehemi and Smith met her again. CCTV footage captured her barely able to stand as the men flanked her and led her to Smith's hotel room. Smith stood outside as lookout, telling Ibrehemi he would give them 20 minutes. Inside the room, Ibrehemi repeatedly raped the intoxicated girl. Smith entered occasionally, instructing Ibrehemi to 'shut her up' to avoid detection. A pillow was placed over her head, and Ibrehemi punched her in the leg.

Hotel staff, alerted by Smith's suspicious pacing in the corridor, approached him. Smith lied, claiming he was trying to get a phone signal, but the staff member overheard him tell Ibrehemi to 'hurry up'. The men then escorted the girl out of the hotel, with CCTV again showing her heavily intoxicated state. The girl's next memory was being collected by her father from Anlaby Road and taken home. She later confided in a friend, leading her parents to alert Humberside Police, who arrested Ibrehemi and Smith.

At Grimsby Crown Court, Judge Gurdial Singh described the girl as Ibrehemi's 'quarry', stating she 'did not stand a chance' when approached and that he 'frog-marched' her to the hotel despite her vulnerability. Ibrehemi admitted to the rape charge. In mitigation, his counsel Rachel Scott noted his young age at the time, his status as a 17-year-old refugee from Iran fleeing danger, his isolation with little family contact, and lack of previous convictions. He had apologised to the victim but faced assaults while awaiting sentence and potential deportation by the Home Office.

The victim impact statement, read by prosecutor Claire Holmes, detailed the profound trauma: 'The two men have taken away my confidence, my personality, my ability to function and my virginity... I will never get over being raped. It is with me every second of every minute of every hour of every day.' Judge Singh sentenced Ibrehemi to nine years and seven months in custody, noting the offence was committed jointly under the influence of alcohol. He will serve at least two-thirds before parole eligibility, be on the sex offenders' register for life, and is barred from working with children.
