Offence Summary

Hussain Bashar, a 19-year-old British national from Southmead, Bristol, was charged with one count of rape as part of a group-based child sexual exploitation investigation involving teenage victims.

Full Description

At Bristol Magistrates’ Court, Hussain Bashar joined six other men charged in a major Avon and Somerset Police investigation into group-based child sexual exploitation. The allegations involve more than 40 offences against 11 teenage girls aged 14 to 17, spanning 2022 to 2025.

Hussain Bashar, a 19-year-old British national from Southmead, Bristol, was charged with one count of rape. The case originated from November 2023 reports of exploitation, culminating in arrests in April 2024 and subsequent bail releases for further inquiry.

Bashar was re-arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday before District Judge Lynne Matthews, where no plea was entered. He was remanded in custody, with a Crown Court date set for 17 December. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert said: “This remains a complex and sensitive investigation which has the protection of young girls from exploitation and the disruption of offending at its very heart.”

The Crown Prosecution Service's James Bolton-Smith affirmed the charges' basis in the Bristol investigation, reminding the public of the suspects' right to a fair trial. Police collaborations with local businesses aim to enhance exploitation reporting and prevention.
