Daniel Render, a 32-year-old resident of Foundry Mill Drive in Seacroft, Leeds, was convicted of multiple sexual offences against an 11-year-old girl spanning several years. The abuse began when the victim was just 11, with Render singling her out and subjecting her to repeated assaults that included inappropriate touching under her clothes and direct contact with her genitals.
According to details presented at Leeds Crown Court, Render's actions escalated on at least one occasion when he kissed the girl by inserting his tongue into her mouth. He further violated her privacy by recording her, leading to a charge of voyeurism. Throughout the period of abuse, Render issued threats to the young victim, warning her not to disclose the 'sickening abuse' to anyone, which instilled fear and delayed her coming forward.
The girl eventually broke her silence and revealed the extent of the trauma in an impact statement read out by prosecutor Nick Peacock. She described how the abuse had profoundly affected her trust in males and left her terrified of disbelief if she spoke out. Render was arrested following her disclosure but initially refused to answer questions from West Yorkshire Police.
Eventually, Render admitted to four counts of assault on a child under 13, one count of attempting to assault a child under 13 by penetration, and one count of voyeurism. In mitigation, his barrister Charlotte Baines highlighted that Render had no previous convictions, had pleaded guilty early—sparing the victim from testifying—and had shown an 'encouraging insight' into his offending. She noted his struggles with drugs and alcohol, which he had begun addressing while on remand, and emphasised his recognition that his behaviour was 'totally unacceptable'.
Recorder Catherine Silverton, presiding over the case, acknowledged Render's guilty pleas as his strongest mitigation but sternly addressed his visible shame, stating, 'And so you should.' She imposed a total extended sentence of seven years and six months, comprising six years and six months in custody followed by a one-year extended licence period. Additionally, Render was made subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and required to register as a sex offender for life.
The case was reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post on 8 December 2025, drawing from court proceedings covered by reporter Nick Frame. West Yorkshire Police were instrumental in the investigation, leading to Render's arrest and the subsequent prosecution at Leeds Crown Court.
