Offence Summary

Shiraz Nassir was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl at his home in Denton, Greater Manchester, as part of a broader gang exploitation involving travel from Birmingham and Walsall.

Full Description

Shiraz Nassir, part of a gang of men from Walsall and Manchester, was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court for his role in the rape and sexual exploitation of a 16-year-old girl. The case, prosecuted by West Midlands Police, detailed a series of predatory encounters that spanned multiple locations in the UK.

The victim first crossed paths with the group on Alum Rock Road in Birmingham, where she was lured into a BMW by Arqash Zaffar and Mohammed Nadim. After an initial sexual assault in a secluded area, Zaffar, accompanied by Shaban Arif, transported her to Manchester to meet Nassir. At Nassir's residence in Denton, Greater Manchester, the girl was raped by both Zaffar and Nassir, marking a significant escalation in her ordeal.

  • The group then moved her to a hotel in Walsall, where further abuse occurred.
  • Subsequent events involved additional assaults in Birmingham, including an incident with four unknown men at another hotel.
  • Police utilised evidence from vehicle details, hotel bookings, phone records, and ANPR to build the case against the offenders.

Shiraz Nassir, 40, of Fir Road in Greater Manchester, was found guilty of one count of rape. Following the convictions, all defendants, including Nassir, were remanded in custody pending sentencing on 19 March 2026 at Birmingham Crown Court, where significant prison terms are anticipated.

Detective Constable Stewart Garratt from West Midlands Police commented: 'I'm so pleased with these convictions for her in particular. These males took advantage of a clearly vulnerable teenager, what she experienced was deeply traumatic.' The investigation underscored the collaborative efforts to support the victim and secure justice through meticulous enquiries.
