Full Description

Reynhard Sinaga, a former PhD student, is one of Britain's most prolific serial rapists, convicted of 159 sex offences against young men in Manchester. Dubbed the 'most prolific rapist in British legal history,' Sinaga lured dozens of victims to his flat, drugging and assaulting them while they were unconscious.

Between 2015 and 2017, Sinaga targeted men he met on nights out in Manchester city centre, often posing as a friendly acquaintance. He would invite them to his apartment near Princess Street, where he spiked their drinks with tranquillisers like GHB. Once incapacitated, Sinaga subjected them to prolonged sexual assaults, filming the attacks on his phone for later gratification. The offences came to light in 2017 when one victim awoke during an assault and fought back, alerting police. Subsequent investigations uncovered a vast collection of video evidence on Sinaga's devices, identifying 48 victims, many of whom had no memory of the events.

  • Sinaga was convicted in four separate trials at Manchester Crown Court between 2018 and 2020.
  • He received four life sentences with a minimum term of 20 years each, ensuring he will die in prison.
  • Prosecutors described the attacks as 'sickening' and 'premeditated,' with Sinaga showing no remorse.

Originally from Indonesia, Sinaga had been living in the UK on a student visa. The case drew widespread media attention, with quotes from Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Cribbin stating, 'Sinaga is an evil and predatory man who revelled in his crimes.' Sources including BBC News and court transcripts detail how the investigation by Greater Manchester Police unravelled the full extent of his depravity, leading to his transfer to HMP Wakefield among other high-risk sex offenders.
