Offence Summary

Sara Hall was convicted of perverting the course of justice and child cruelty for enabling Matthew Aldridge's sexual abuse of young girls and coercing a victim to alter her evidence. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Full Description

Sara Hall, aged 46, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in facilitating and concealing the sexual offences committed by Matthew Aldridge against three young girls. Hall, who had full knowledge of the risks posed by Aldridge, failed to safeguard the children and actively perverted the course of justice by coercing one victim to change her police statement in 2016, thereby allowing the abuse to persist.

The investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police uncovered Hall's complicity during the three-week trial at Mold Crown Court. Evidence showed she permitted the offences to occur despite awareness of the harm to the children, constituting child cruelty. Her actions were described by His Honour Judge Nic Parry as a 'gross betrayal of trust' and condemned her 'victim blaming attitude', which compounded the trauma experienced by the victims.

Hall's charges included perverting the course of justice and child cruelty through failure to protect the children from sexual abuse. The sentencing on 9 November 2023 highlighted how her interference delayed justice, but the eventual convictions brought some closure. Detective Constable Liz Evans praised the victims' resilience, noting that the offenders' lack of remorse added to their suffering. This case illustrates the severe consequences for those who enable such crimes.
