Offence Summary

Steven Ronan Wilson duped a man into visiting his flat under false pretences of a party and then raped and sexually assaulted him. He was sentenced to nine years in prison for these offences.

Full Description

In 2009, Steven Ronan Wilson, then known as Stephen Dorr, targeted a man who was waiting for a taxi in Worcester city centre after a night out. Wilson, aged 55 at the time of sentencing, approached the stranger and lured him back to his flat in Worcester by promising a party with 'a lot of girls'. Upon arrival, the victim discovered there was no party, and Wilson locked the door behind him, trapping the man inside.

Wilson then escalated the situation by playing pornography on the television and demanding that the victim perform oral sex on him. Fearing for his safety and believing he had no choice, the victim complied, leading to the charge of rape. Following this, Wilson sexually assaulted the victim, subjecting him to a degrading and humiliating ordeal that lasted approximately three to four hours. It was not until daylight that Wilson allowed the victim to leave the flat.

The case remained unresolved for over a decade until the victim recognised Wilson from a 2011 local press photograph linked to a previous conviction for grooming offences involving boys in similar circumstances. This recognition prompted the victim to come forward, demonstrating remarkable bravery in reporting the crimes. The investigation was led by Detective Constable Chris Hawkes of West Mercia Police.

On 12 May 2025, at Worcester Crown Court, Wilson was found guilty of rape and sexual assault on 4 April 2025. He was sentenced to nine years' custody for rape, with a concurrent two-year sentence for sexual assault. Additionally, Wilson was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. DC Hawkes commented: 'Wilson’s victim was incredibly scared during his time trapped in his flat and feared for his safety as he did not know Wilson, or what he was capable of.' He further added: 'We are pleased to get this court result for Wilson who subjected his victim to a degrading and humiliating ordeal back in 2009. The victim in this case showed incredible bravery and strength to come forward about Wilson’s crimes, and we hope his conviction will go some way to help him move forward with his life.'

This conviction highlights Wilson's pattern of predatory behaviour, building on his prior grooming offences. The case was reported by the Worcester Observer, underscoring the importance of victim testimony in securing justice years after the incident.
